It started good, they came with design help and ideas and came back with a drawing, only one option was given and no further drawings after that, we were under the impression there would be more options. We did make some minor changes to the plan and felt confident in the design of a two level patio with a border and stone steps and flagstone walkway. We were also very pleased with the design of the mulch beds and plantings. There were only two minor concerns; 1 was a small tree that I was worried would get in the way of the view and the other was the idea of the grill floating at the edge of the patio. Andrew assured us it would look good and we went along. The tree turned out great but I have to come up with another option for the grill (I don’t like the looks of it just sitting at the edge of a curved section no less).

Everything was going well then concrete was poured and it was not good. Somewhere along the line it was decided that the two level would now be one level. There was no border where we wanted in back and we were told it was too late to add it however, there was a guy going around the entire perimeter with a hand trowel. That hand trowel did create different textures in the concrete between the perimeter and the inner portion, all the way around. There is a step down onto a half circle landing, that landing was very obviously out of round (we pointed this out before they poured) and a spot about 12 inches long on the step crumbled. There are several spots of stamp overlay onto the border, concrete splashed all over house, plus dirty hand prints on white trim. We also had a broken pathway stone and abnormal step pacing on half the walkway.

They did come back and fixed pathway, attempted to fix crumbled step and attempted to scrub concrete splash off the one year old house paint.

I was pleased with most things and accepted the repair of the crumbled step but there was no possible way to fix the out of round or the different textures of the concrete without tearing up and re-pouring. The splash on the house didn’t come off and the only way to fix would be to repaint basically the bottom three feet of the entire back of the house. However, we didn’t want to keep the project going and felt that eventually we might not notice these flaws that looked so major at the moment. (they still look like major flaws)

We paid 30% up front and at the halfway point 50% of the remaining but they would not offer anything more than $500 discount for major concrete flaws that would require tear out and re-pour to fix, and refused to come back until we paid in full. Andy, the owner, (not the same as Andrew, our salesman) called and threatened me a with lawyer and a lien on my house, even though they hadn’t finished the job. He was rude and insulting, and finally refused to finish the job period.

After some legal consult it turns out there were multiple contractual requirements by law not followed including a breakdown of pricing (he tried to offer $180 discount for not sealing, however, multiple quotes were $500-1000 for this job) and the fact that the concrete work was being sub-contracted to another company. We sent in final payment less what we thought was fair based on the advice of our lawyer. When we hired someone else to come and finish their job, we then discovered the 2 steps (the two level plan had 3 “stone steps” and we had to point out that there was no discount for the additional step that we did not get, another place where the pricing breakdown would have helped) that were sold to us represented as stone are actually fake concrete “stones” and playground mulch was just old mulch moved from the original patio site including lot of mud. One final note, we wanted this completed by a specific date that we were clear about from the very beginning and were told that it would be completed pending weather issues. This was not the case, the weather was fine but workers showed up most days around 9 am and left each day at 3 pm including the day it was supposed to be completed.

I would push forward with legal action but my wife doesn’t want the hassle

We were extremely dissatisfied with the landscaping work performed by Ohio Valley Group at our home during May and June 2015.

The three-pronged project scope agreed between us and Ohio Valley specified (1) the installation of a stone retaining wall for a garden bed, (2) the installation of fencing and foliage surrounding the First Energy electrical box in our front yard, and (3) the planting of several plants in front of our house.

Our complaints include:
1.The stones comprising the garden bed retaining wall were not cemented, making them unsafe to walk on, contrary to Ohio Valley’s explicit reassurances about their safety.
2.One of the flowering plants planted in front of the house died almost immediately, and was not replaced, with the patently incorrect claim from Ohio Valley that the plant was in fact still alive.
3.Most significantly, the project to surround the First Energy electrical box with fencing and foliage was mismanaged, producing an aesthetic result hardly better than originally existed.

Repeated contacts with Ohio Valley to address issues #2 and #3 (issue #1 only became apparent at a later date) resulted in slow, minimal, reluctant and ultimately inadequate resolution of our concerns.

After Ohio Valley insisted on full payment for the entire project before attending further to our concerns, we complied by remitting our final payment, only to find that this ended all incentive for Ohio Valley to satisfactorily address our concerns, with Ohio Valley essentially disengaging from fulfilling on their obligations to complete the project scope.

Because we came to recognize that we could not rely upon Ohio Valley to perform satisfactory work, we have since retained other contractors at additional expense to address complaint #1, and have undertaken our own efforts and expense to address complaints #2 and #3.

We are not using Ohio Valley for additional landscaping work needs that we have, and we will not recommend to anyone that they retain Ohio Valley as a contractor.

We hired Ohio Valley Group based on a recommendation from our builder who completed the roof structure in tandem with Ohio Valley who helped us design and complete the paver patio, fireplace, bar, water feature and landscaping. We are extremely happy with the results of our new outdoor living and entertaining space, it has completely transformed our backyard and added privacy to our corner lot. We cannot say enough positive things about the Ohio Valley Group crew and management. They had great ideas, they are great people we felt comfortable having on our property and they executed the project within budget and on time. We highly recommend Ohio Valley Group and we would not hesitate to work with them again.

We hired the Ohio Valley Group to redo our front deck and walkway. They responded quickly to my request for an appointment, were on time, and came up with good ideas. They scheduled the project, and came when they said they would. Their team was on time every day, polite, and tidy. Everyday they cleaned up the work site, blowing away any sawdust or debris. They even put my potted plants back each night. There were a couple of times we made changes and they accommodated us without complaint. The project was done on time and looks beautiful. They really transformed our curb appeal from shameful to beautiful . We couldn’t be happier. Andrew was great to work with. Dave and his team were spot on. We will definitely hire them again.

Ohio Group mows and maintains, but does not weed, trim or tidy the way we hoped. Our front beds were so full of weeds the entire season. When mentioned to one of their workers I was assured that “another crew” took care of such things. They never did.
They mow well, and they are pleasant.

I have been with the Ohio Valley Group for two years. In 2015, they did a completely front yard makeover. Later this spring, Ohio Valley will tackle our back yard. In addition, Ohio Valley Group handles all of our maintenance needs (lawn care, pruning, fertilizer, snow removal, etc.). Overall, they are amazing. Their work is the best I have seen. The staff is very friendly and courteous. I have 100% confidence in their designs, budget process and final completion of the projects requested. Great company and great people. Highly recommend!

Ohio Valley Group rebuilt our back patio using our barn stone and new Pennsylvania bluestone. A built in grill and island was added along with railing where appropriate. A new walkway using our old brick was added. Lighting was added around grill, on our large tree and along the walkway path. They light up beautifully.. A few months latter our old pond got a new face lift and a water fall was added. Every project turned out beautiful. We are very happy. The employees work hard, clean up the yard nicely and are very polite! .

Ohio Valley replaced my old unhealthy lawn by killing the old lawn, spreading some topsoil and reseeding and fertilizing. The lawn grew in within a few weeks and has never looked better. A few small bare spots got more seed added without hesitation on there part.
The follow up to my phone calls is always excellent. I’ve used them for other projects too.

Ohio Valley has provided landscaping services for us in Solon for many years, and we have hired them for a variety of projects. Although a little pricey, the work has been almost uniformly excellent. The Company is extremely reliable and the owner will take a personal interest and fix it if any problems develop. The quality of plant products and workmanship is outstanding. I have recommended them to others. We used them for a very big project in May – June 2015 and were very satisfied.
