Knapp and Associates has been our go-to landscape design company since we built our house 15 years ago. I have worked with Mike and Van over a period of decades; first at our home in Chatham in the early 90’s when we completely regraded and reconfigured the entire rear property, and then in New Vernon in the mid-2000’s when they transformed 3+ acres. Mike has always been an outstanding and thoughtful listener. He creates rough drawings at every stage of discussion to give clients a visual reference from the very beginning and stages the project in phases that make it economically feasible. This way, the only surprises are how much more beautiful the end results are than you even dreamed they could be!
From first conversations to finishing touches, Knapp and Associates partners with the finest masons, excavators and specialists wherever appropriate. Grading for optimal drainage was a significant concern in our larger project, as the property was almost completely flat, but through careful assessment and analysis, Mike and his team made sure that in 15+ years and the heaviest rainstorms, our drainage system performed perfectly and our basement remained dry.
Mike’s extensive knowledge of plantings and trees, both flowering and not, gave us screening that endures to this day as well as near-constant perennial blooms, staged from May through the summer. Even in the fall, we had large border shrubs whose greenery became a fiery red and created a striking vista from our windows.
We recently said goodbye to this beautiful home and moved to a townhouse with substantial property and privacy; Mike and his team have already been brought in to help us create another beautiful property.
