John and his team were an absolute pleasure to work with!!! John is so personable, and knowledgeable about the safety and environmental elements of installing a pool. He has a great eye for design, and picked up on everything we wanted. He made a huge effort to pay attention to detail to get our backyard and pool area to what we wanted. Now, his team… I can not say enough great things!! The office staff is friendly and efficient too! The men working on the stone and pool are friendly, professional, timely and helpful! As we re-did our pool, they were in our back yard for 6 weeks or so… and were so lovely to have around! I would recommend using Green Pastures for your pool needs!

Among his more prosaic talents in horticulture, landscape materials, lighting, engineering and structures, John Cohen has the eye and emotional sensitivity of an artist.

Spending time with us to learn what we liked and hated, and taking as his starting point a vaguely worded desire for a landscape that contained boulders and a greatly reduced – yet prominent lawn area, John refined those notions into a completely reimagined landscape that is remarkable not only for its beauty but for the drama surrounding the beauty. Needless to say we are extremely happy with the result!

During his first meeting with us, John identified some architectural changes to the property he believed would further add to the dramatic effect of the new landscape and priced these as options. We initially decided to forego the options but as work progressed it became blindingly obvious that to not incorporate those suggestions would be a grievous error. And so we did. And it was a great decision!

In terms of the work, I had the opportunity to hang around with the crew and play “sidewalk superintendent” as they went about implementing John’s vision. I learned that these craftspersons had been working with John for over 20 years and were each quite skilled in their specialties. As a client who is a retired engineering executive, this relationship was very important to me because I viewed it as a significant indicator that the quality of the installation would be faithful to John’s design and likely meet my expectations. And it did so on both counts!

Each phase – demolition, grading, irrigation, planting, masonry, electrical, concrete staining and antiquing – proceeded smoothly, professionally and with great care for our property and neighbors. After the day’s work everything was cleaned up properly and ready for the next day’s work.

Compared to the mega-projects Green Pastures does for its well known clients in show business and industry, ours was a miniature effort but it seemed that it was just as important to John that our result be just as spectacular, albeit on a smaller scale. For that we count ourselves fortunate.

John is BY FAR the most visionary landscape designer that I have ever come across! He took my ideas and added his creativity to produce the most beautiful garden I could ever have. I have worked with 3 landscape design companies with my previous home. They knew plants but they lacked the artistry…the part that cannot be taught but rather is a natural gift of talent.

While design and vision may be what we desire, installation is as important an aspect of a landscape design company. John’s abilities are equaled by his crew. The project managers (and there isn’t just one), give their undivided attention to the job at hand. They have their own specific areas of expertise and bring their ideas to the table, as well. The job is completely managed and coordinated to a detail that is unbelievable! I work with a lot of contractors as an owner of an apartment building and it is very difficult to find dependable, capable people in all areas of the company. Green Pastures excels in ALL aspects! The “workers” show up on time, work hard every day, and clean up at the end of each day. I won’t mention specific names as I feel every one that was present on the jobsite, whether for only a few days to dig or for the whole project time frame to manage, makes Green Pastures the successful business that it is and one that I will use again for future projects HANDS DOWN!

We highly recommend the Green Pastures Group, Inc. landscaping experts. We wanted our lawn removed and replaced with a stone wash, accented with flowers and boulders. Well, we got the most magnificent result, thanks to John Cohen’s design and his right-hand man Jose’s implementation.The myriad colorful flowers are so beautiful, as are the boulders, which look like marble infused with streaks of copper and gold. The stone wash itself flows through the yard and intersects our walkway.

They even added new copper drain pipes to match the boulders!
