We have done many home improvement projects and this is the first time we were going to pay the big bucks to have a professional design/build firm take care of everything and guide us through the whole project.
Our excitement was short lived as we starting working with the designer and realized how much work we would still need to do if we were to get what we wanted. Unfortunately, working with Landsystems / Metasequoia has been the worst experience. Far worse than I could have ever imagined. They were unreliable, unorganized, used inexperienced subs, and over billed. During the design process, we worked with three different designers because of staff changes. Each time was like starting new and getting to finally break ground was painfully slow. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the worse of it. We had a lot of hardscape and drainage in our project.. I think Landsystems was in over their head, but never said anything. We have a small lot and the area they are working was only about 650 sq ft.
They did not build to their design elevations and therefore things were sloped where they shouldn’t be and simply put, things were off. The concrete walls/planting boxes they built began to crumble and crack within a few days. The solution was to hire a sub to stucco over the concrete walls. The person they hired to do the stucco was shocked at the poor work done by Landystems and stated that what they are incorrect to make the concrete walls at the height they were because they will crack.
It was appalling that the owners at Landsystems were fine to sign off on this work. They wouldn’t accept fault for any of the shoddy work. We had a drain that was supposedly finished, but came to find out that it was never connected to a pipe. So many rookie mistakes from what we thought to be a reputable firm.
Meanwhile, they are very prompt at asking for payment prior to work being done. I wrote checks weekly to keep things moving along. So, I’m paid up on a project that isn’t finished and needs to be totally demo and re-done because of the errors and carelessness of Landsystems.

After interviewing several companies, our family chose Landsystems for our design and build. They had great communication throughout the entire project and kept us updated timely. I would highly recommend them!

We used Landsystems to redo our backyard. We added a large pergola, new hardscaping, lawn, lots of new plants and trees complete with high-tech watering system and lighting. Tim’s and his team were always on time, professional and extremely competent. They took care of all permitting and administrative stuff. Everything was tracked online so I was able to see timing and cost at anytime. They came up with a beautiful concept and the most amazing part is that they were on budget! I highly recommend Landsystems for all your landscaping needs.

We have been working on a home renovation plan for quite a while. As part of the process, we wanted to re-energize our yard and Landsystems was brought in to reimagine our front and back gardens. From the beginning, we felt at ease with Tim. He was direct, forthcoming, and took us to see his work locally. After our initial design phase, Landsystems was able to engage on demo and preliminary permitting right away (which we really appreciate considering the pandemic environment and most materials/labor on delay). They’ve been very communicative throughout the process and continuously help us find ways to have a cohesive design while maintaining a budget. We’re excited for the final product and will update this review at that time.

Love our new backyard! Landsystem’s design team did an excellent job. Ming and Raul were great to work with, and the labor/installation crew was hardworking, skilled and efficient.

For a very long time, my husband and I have been wanting to completely re-landscape both our front and back yards with drought-tolerant, low-maintenance, and beautiful plantings. We engaged Landsystems Landscapes to develop a plan, and Tim Vine has been a delight to work with. He has been able to take the “blank canvas” of our yard and develop a plan that is exactly what we want, but don’t have the knowledge to create for ourselves. He has listened carefully to our initial goals for the project, and has incorporated all of our suggestions for revisions into a great plan that we’re really excited about. The planning process has gone smoothly and efficiently since we began. Now we’re looking forward to installation!

Working with Tim and the team at Landsystems Landscapes has overall been a pleasure. The designs and reviews were prompt and reflected the input and guidance that we provided in terms of color, budget and timing. There was time spent listening and then taking that in to account when doing the plans while also being professionally honest when the ideas didn’t line up with the quality that Landsystems looks to be associated with. Once the designs were done the execution was done promptly and efficiently for the new plants and irrigation. Some additional asks mid-implementation like lighting and pathing were handled at a reasonable cost and didn’t require much extra time to be completed.

Seven months after completion, we are quite happy with the quality of how things are going in our garden (still early days). A few things didn’t grow as expected per the plan but this is expected and we look forward to the follow-up review and discussion with Tim and the Landsystems crew of what’s better to be there.

Save yourself a massive headache and do not work with this firm. Great salesmanship, but as soon as you begin the work, things fall apart at alarming rate. What went from a 12 week project, turned into 7 months. Budget of $50k, turned into $70k with no changes to our original plan. And the service experience? unresponsive, underhanded and never assumed responsibility/accountability for their endless delays and missteps. A disaster.

After staring at our barren backyard for a couple of years, we figured it was time to do something about it. We had interviewed 3 landscape designers, but in meeting with Tim he was enthusiastic about turning our backyard into a liveable and beautiful space. We had signed up with Landsystems Landscape and design proceeded immediately. We were impressed that Tim had captured the style of our house as well as our own requests for what we were looking for. After a couple of rounds of design review, we finalized the plans and demo/construction started soon after. The field crews were top notch, friendly and performed well. There were a couple of early breaks in communication with the assigned PM and frustrations with project billing, but Tim’s interest in keeping client relations positive helped smooth out any issues. Overall we’d recommend Landsystems Landscapes and would work with them again.

So pleased to be working with Landsystems. From the first prompt response to my e-mail inquiry, to the initial mtg, to the initial plan review and then to project kick off, entire team has been responsive, engaging, professional and effectively equipped to support me in my front and backyard redesign. We are currently two weeks in and the project is running smoothly – as expected. Looking forward to the final outcome and enjoying our new space.

We needed a landscape redesign for our entire property. I called Landsystems Landscapes and had a great initial meeting. I was interviewing several landscape companies at the time and really connected with Tim, the Owner. He was knowledgeable and wasn’t afraid to assert his opinion. I needed that.

They drew me a new conceptual plan for the property, which was a complete redesign of everything, including hardscaping. I’m very pleased with the design. The front yard is going to be beautiful and, since I live on a busy street, purely ornamental. The backyard, which is a good space for my kids to play in, has a great lawn area for them to run around, which was important to me. The concrete path leading from our deck to our shed and then to our raised vegetable garden, was designed with a lot of thought and care, so it’s functional and beautiful. They did a great job listening to everything that I wanted and incorporating that into the design.

I’m glad I chose Landsystems Landscapes and I would recommend them. Beautiful, beautiful plan! I can’t wait to see the yard when construction is finished!

Tim and the team at Landsystems really do unique work. Not your typical design, not the basic/boring experience. Something special and something great.

We hired Landsystems Landscapes to re-design our back- and front yards. What we liked about them from the outset was their ability to envision the future design working with our style preferences, environmental considerations, costs and schedule. The construction design was highly collaborative and took us a very short time to reach the look we were seeking. Following that we went through the planting plans and again worked with them to select the plants that really made the yard come together. They hit the schedule we developed and were available for face to face meetings to discuss progress, changes, or just to keep us synched with their work. We found Landsystems Landscapes to be completely reliable, approachable, and really a pleasure to work with through the entire process. I’ve since recommended them without reservation, and had several walk throughs for potential clients.

I hired Landsystems to do a partial replanting and installation of drip irrigation of an existing, landscaped area that needed some renewal. They efficiently did a planting plan and evaluated and recommended a new drip system to replace the old spray irrigation system. I ultimately decided to do the irrigation and mulching and postpone new planting for next year. They were efficient, flexible and fair in revising the estimates and scheduling the work which was done in an efficient manner. They were easy to work with and reliable. I am happy with the work done.

Landsystems Landscapes is wonderful. They were very patient while I figured out what we needed in the back yard and then provided more than we ever imagined. They were on time and on budget.
