We recently completed a significant residential rooftop project with Rooftopia and are extremely pleased with the result. We have lived in our home since 2008 and had not had any work done on the rooftop outside of staining the former wood deck. The space was very hard to use due to the lack of seating and shade. We engaged Rooftopia to help us realize our very raw vision.
Rooftopia helped us define our true wants and needs, from creating a layout to picking finishes and also adding some unique touches the entire process was smooth and professional. Jenn and her design team came through and helped us make decisions that we were struggling with. The hands-on approach of bringing materials to our home helped greatly.
After the design was complete, we got to meet the “Rootopians” (Jenn and Marcin’s build/install team). They were absolutely the best! They worked tirelessly in uneven spring weather and summer heat. Polite to a fault, they even put up with our over-protective pug and his relentless barking. We highly recommend Rooftopia.

We loved everything about working with Rooftopia! They are talented, responsive and professional. We looked at several different companies to build a roof deck on our home in Wicker Park. It was obvious early on that Jenn and her crew at Rooftopia were a different breed of builders. We have hired Rooftopia for two significant projects at different homes, and have been extremely pleased with their work. Jenn and her team are top notch, responsive, creative, incredibly flexible and a joy to work with. Everything is custom and tailored to you, they aren’t afraid to experiment, take inspiration or adapt their big scale builds to smaller scale or paced out projects. All of her team members were awesome, professional and respectful of our space. They finished the project on time, on budget and delivered high quality and unique final pergola construction. We get so much more use out of our deck now with the new pergola. Our favorite part about our pergola was how they took inspiration from our love of Portuguese and Morrocan tiles and created custom metal screens to our pergola. We recommend them without hesitation for any of your urban landscaping projects.

We worked with Jenn and her team from design through implementation and are thrilled with the final results. Our project while not huge had some challenges as we were having terraces on the 23rd floor landscaped with planters (container trees, grasses, annuals and perennials on one terrace and an edible garden of herbs and veggies on the smaller terrace). The plants selected needed to tolerate wind and sun. Rooftopia listened to our needs, preferences and feedback, and quickly made the requested changes on the design along the way until we were all satisfied. Jenn and the entire Rooftopia team were great to work with during every phase. We even received a compliment from the building on how courteous, professional and responsible the crew was at installation – they lwere extremely careful of the building and left everything in great shape. They are creative, hardworking and just plain fun to work with.

From vision to finished project, Rooftopia was wonderful. Jenn and Marcin and their entire on-site team were consummate professionals, but on top of that just really, really nice people. The project was for an upper and lower deck and the finished project in Bucktown (pictures coming in the spring) turned out gorgeous. They also did a smaller front entry way project for us on a tight timeframe and it looks perfect, as well. The thing about Rooftopia is that they pay attention to every detail. The final product is so beautifully finished.

A quick shout out to the “team” who actually came and worked at our home. They were there for several months. Having people working on your house can be hard. I absolutely cannot say enough good things about the people who came each day. They clearly took a lot of pride in their workmanship and were incredibly considerate and really, really wanted us to be happy.

Combine our gorgeous outcome with an excellent design and management team and a great on-site team with wonderful craftsmanship and you can be sure that I would gladly recommend Rooftopia to anyone I know (and have already!).

Best contractor experience I’ve ever had, hands down. Jenn and the team are extremely responsive, knowledgeable, and fantastic at what they do – which is make the dream you have for your outdoor space a reality.

We came to them with a large empty roofdeck and rough idea of what we wanted to do with it. Over the course of several virtual and in person meetings with their design team we created a beautiful space. They were very accommodating of our ideas and made helpful and creative recommendations along the way.

Once the blueprints were drawn the build-out began. All of the workers were courteous, knowledgeable, and made sure everything was installed to perfection. Any issues or concerns we had were immediately addressed by Jenn and the team. In the end we ended up with an outdoor space that we will enjoy for years to come. We can’t thank them enough.

This review would be incomplete without a note that demonstrates Rooftopia’s humanity – which unfortunately seems to be a rare trait in the contractor world. Our original design was set to start work in the spring of 2020. My industry was one of the hardest hit and most immediately impacted by the pandemic. Due to my sudden financial uncertainty, we had to press pause on the project we were just about to start. Rather than being upset or annoyed, Jenn and the team expressed sincere concern and gave us the time we needed to get back on our feet. That genuine and personal response is something I think about every time I spend time on our now beautifully completed roofdeck.

We worked with the Rooftopia team for an extended period of time building out a large rooftop deck install. Marcin and Jenn were both a pleasure to work with throughout the project. We found the proposal and design process to be well run, efficient and focused as we had a number of decisions to make. The entire team were open to ideas along the way, as well as patient with our revisions. The detail and design that went into the custom wood and ironwork pieces turned out beautiful. The final results were beyond our expectation, we could not be more happy with the fully built out kitchen, overall aesthetic and of course plantings.

Rooftopia completed a very challenging balcony deck for me.

They successfully communicated with the HOA engineer and my architect in order to get the HOA and city permit approval. Something that looked impossible before.

Their talent doesn’t stop with maneuvering challenging political roads, but they are also incredibly creative thinkers and problem solvers!
The city required the existing balcony parapet wall to be raised in order to meet current code, and the HOA required that no penetrations be made to the existing structure.
Rooftopia’s metal working crew is top talent! They were able to engineer a metal railing that didn’t require securing to the existing parapet wall and it looks absolutely stunning.
The pedestal system and pavers they recommended are both incredibly practical and beautiful.

It is rare to see so many different talented people in such a small company, but Rooftopia is the one place that gets really close to being a true utopia.

I can’t rave enough about Rooftopia and the work that they’ve done to my front and backyard as well as my rooftop. All I had on the roof was Trex when we bought our house, and the Rooftopia team helped design (read: essentially designed the entire project for me). On the roof they built a custom made pergola, planters, a kitchen island and more! They showed up timely, worked in the heat of the summer (I felt terrible), was respectful of my house and my neighbors. I even got a comment in my neighborhood FB group about how polite and friendly they were!

For my front yard, all I had was grass. They designed a beautiful landscape, with edible berries and made it look so much more colorful and cleaner.

They were extremely responsive, upfront with all costs and overall fantastic to work with. I completely trusted their decisions and materials and loved their designs. I essentially give them free reign of all my planters now. I wish I could attach more pictures – these ones are from a 4th of July party I had, which they were working overtime to try to be done in time! They truly did fantastic work, I couldn’t recommend them enough and I love supporting a minority-owned business. I look forward to having them back to help with more projects!

I can’t begin to say enough good things about Rooftopia and their crew! When I set out on this journey to reinvent my outdoor living space, I didn’t know what to expect and what was possible. I met with several designers and contractors, and they all came to the table with typical Chicago deck designs. I called Rooftopia on a recommendation from a friend (and new client of theirs). I was not disappointed! From the moment I reached out to Jenn, Jill and Marcin, I knew this experience would be different. They are the ultimate professionals, and were genuinely excited to be able to provide me with a customized design that matched my vision for the space. I recently bought my home and knew the deck & rooftop needed immediate attention; it would be a massive undertaking for a new homeowner. Jenn & Jill were my primary contacts and they provided excellent, timely communication, and most importantly, honest feedback on what could & couldn’t be done. Marcin, and the entire onsite crew were equally as impressive. I knew I was in capable hands. We started in November 2017 with my garage rooftop, and will finish in the summer of 2018 with the lower deck. So far, the result has been a completely transformed garage rooftop! My new space looks like something you’d find in a restaurant, bar or lounge, not in someone’s backyard! I can’t wait for the summer so we can start the second phase. Rooftiopia was wonderful to work with. The project team made multiple site visits to make accurate plans for the project. When work was able to start the project lead was in full contact providing updates and schedule details. They were flexible and quick to adjust as things came up. The workmen were friendly, courteous, and diligent. They cleaned up after themselves at the end of every workday and stored items securely out of the way. The finished product exceeded our expectations. The quality of materials and work was some of the best I have experienced.

I like the fact that they worked with us every year to “winterize” our space. The prices were very reasonable so that we didn’t have to do a thing when the summer hit. They would plant our flower boxes, set the sprinkler system, lay the mulch and spruce up in just 1 day. We were able to come home from a long day’s work and enjoy the deck from summer through fall !!!
