We are renovating a home in Malibu and we needed a new concrete walkway. Setting up the meeting was effortless. Will gave some good insight on options were in Malibu without having to pull a permit and provided us some pricing to anticipate in his proposal. The very next morning Will provided us an estimate. We signed same day and were put on their very busy schedule of 4-5 weeks out. The crew showed up and did a fantastic job with our new walkway. Everything was done in three days. Very pleased. My husband and I were referred to the design team at Sterling for our backyard space in the Hollywood Hills. We had a refreshing experience with Will and his team. They created a design that was far exceeding the vision we had for the space. Not only was the design visually above our expectations but everything about it from cost implementation to orientation of elements within the design were well thought out.

My wife interviewed a half dozen companies in the area to build our pool and dream backyard. I gave her a budget and frankly didn’t think what we wanted done in our yard could be done for our ideal budget. I was shocked when these guys helped us value engineer our yard. It felt so refreshing to be dealing with a contractor who cares more about the customer and value/quality of the product then lining their pockets. The only feed back I have is the project took a few weeks longer than originally expected. We were understanding though because of recent pandemic events.

If I could give zero stars I would. We interviewed four to five companies for completion of a pathway around our property with timbers and pavers. We received complete bids from 4 companies. I really liked Will and he seemed professional and knowledgeable. I took great care to review the companies including their reviews. Noticing a few negative reviews I spoke with Will about this and he took responsibility for poor reviews and told me he had learned from that experience and would not repeat the behaviors. Their contract was vague and didn’t include specific work to be completed for progress payments. They would send an invoice and I would promptly pay it. However, when they were about 75% complete the work stopped. Even though I had paid 93% of the total agreement. We had issues throughout the project as the workers were not mindful of existing irrigation lines and cut them in various locations without capping them or re-routing them or even notifying us of what had been done. Our water bill sklyrocketed and they sent someone to make repairs. The repairs did not fix the issues and they continued. This is when they offered another bid to replace the existing irrigation system at a very high figure. I wanted them to complete the first project before signing on to other agreements. I’m so relieved I didn’t sign another contract with them. They stated their bid was based on their estimate of sq footage and for labor and materials for that amount of work only. The contract was vague so could be argued either way, so we came to an agreement to pay an additional sum for them to complete the work. They agreed to run conduit in 6 locations of the pathway for irrigation (for the future). I will attach photos of what they did so you can see for yourself that not only are they not conduit, they are just drip lines they snaked under the path. They cut corners on quality and we had to fight them to complete the contract and finally were so disgusted we just paid them to get them off our property.

Sterling and Will are very nice in the beginning but do not be fooled. They will manipulate you and will do the least amount of work possible. When problems arrise they are slow to respond and do not care if the job is done correctly or not. I strongly recommend you look to other professional landscaping companies.

Sterling and his crews are miracle workers! My husband and I own a 1924 craftsman home in Mt. Washington and the outdoor layout needed a lot of work. All of the vegetation was completely overgrown and we wanted a more functional outdoor space to hang out with friends and family. They built a deck with attached light fixtures, wooden fencing to enclose our space and add more privacy, and created a stone pathway through the front yard. They exceeded our expectations 10-fold! These guys are trustworthy, honest, and extremely talented. Can’t wait for them to start working on our next home!

I had a phenomenal experience with Sterling and his team. I have owned a house in the hills with drainage and erosion problems for the last ten years. We also wanted to install an outdoor living space on our back hillside. William helped us navigate soil reports, engineering, city of Los Angeles codes, along with creating a cohesive design that would pass city permitting processes. The entire design/permit process was much easier than I anticipated with these guys. They are the go-to guys in the hills for this sort of thing we had heard. Construction went fairly smooth as well. Better than other experiences we have had with top firms in the area. Our project manager was there every single day and Sterling helped manage the project as well. We are so pleased with not only the aesthetic outcome of the project but also the drainage and erosion issues we solved along the way. The only downside/negative thing through the entire process was they lost one of our checks/payments and we had to rewrite a check at one point. Stuff happens I guess. I couldn’t give a better recommendation to this outfit!

I needed a drainage system installed ASAP in order to be LID compliant and sell my home. There is limited resources available online or even when you call the planning center. Luckily, Sterling and their team knew how to navigate Los Angeles drainage and low
Impact development requirements. They I stalled a rain barrel catch system and solved the issues my realtor was telling me I was going to run into when I sell. They were fantastic to work with!
