How can a DIY pool Heating System Work?

A DIY-friendly pool heater harnesses the sun’s heat to heat water through a hose that flows into the pool.

This guide will teach you how to build a simple solar heater for pools that can be used with all kinds of pools and won’t affect any existing pool equipment that might already be in use.

The performance of your solar heater is dependent on the level of sun exposure you have in your region. The sun’s exposure influences the efficiency and warmth of your DIY heater; therefore, the location is crucial.

Warning

Always ensure that you wear and wear appropriate protective equipment, like goggles or gloves, long sleeves, and long pants, when you work using any power or hand equipment.

How to build your DIY Swimming Heater

Various methods exist to make the area where the sun will strike and warm the water inside the hose. It is often possible to do this with the help of materials found in your home. Our preferred method, described below, involves a piece made of wood and screws.

Connect the hose to the pump.

  1. Attach the garden hose (or any other black or black-colored hose) with the pump using the help of a clamp for stockings, and then drop another end into your pool. Ensure the pipe is connected to the outlets connected to the pump.
  2. If it’s submersible, you could place the pump into the pool to collect water and leave the other portion of the hose outside the swimming pool.
  3. After this procedure, the pump and the hose must be connected to an end sticking out of the water.

Tip

  1. If you are choosing a hose for your DIY heater for your pool, it is best to select a longer one. As long as the hose is longer, the greater the space the heater will be able to cover.

Install the screws into the plywood.

  1. The next step is to create a solar surface on which the water will get warm inside the hose before it travels into the water. This requires the plywood to be a minimum of 3×3 inches.
  2. Draw two rows approximately one to two inches apart from the opposite edges of the board. Screws should be placed in those rows, spacing them by 2 inches.

The hose should be wrapped.

  1. The hose that comes out of the pump, and then wrap each one around the screw. Cross over the board at the end of each wrap. It will form the form of a zigzag fashion similar to the shoelaces of a sneaker.

Place the board in the sun.

  1. Knowing that the hose on the board needs to be heated, position the board in a highly sun-filled area. The sun’s light shining on the board will naturally warm the water inside the hose, and when it is through the hose and back into the pool, you’ll have warm water waiting to be used.

When do you need to call a professional?

If you have completed this task and your pool is cold or not as warm as you’d like, it could be time to take the plunge and invest in a non-solar swimming heater. Get a qualified opinion on the best way to achieve your desire for warmth for your pool and the best options depending on your collection design.
