My wife &I are first time homeowners. We saved up money for 5 years after moving into our home to remodel our backyard. We wanted to add a pool, gazebo & pavers. After interviewing 8 contractors we decided to work with Daniel the owner of Monaco, due to the quality of work he presented during our interviews. Our total contract cost exceeded $200,000.00. Unfortunately there were numerous issues, time of completion, from the quality of work, & overall service.
Timeline was quoted at 3-4 months. From start to finish it was 19 months, as deposit was given 5/6/2020 & Monaco’s last day onsite was 11/21/2021. We were understanding there were road blocks he ran into but, 19 months for completion is/was frustrating & unacceptable.
The main issues were with the quality of his work. It was no where near the quality he had presented to use during our interviews.
-gas lines for our fire pots were ran too small, starving the fire pots of gas & had debris in them. Thus, 1 of our 3 fire pots do not work. We’re now in the process of hiring a new contractor to take down my pool wall & re-run the correct size line, cleaned of all debris. I’ve received quotes for this re-work between $20,000-$25,000
-The sink is flowing directly out to the street (this will flow to ocean) which is illegal.
-Outlet boxes mounted crooked, have large gaps gaps around the sides with loose/broken stones stuffed into the gaps.
-Outer Lights are not sealed, gaps are showing
-Sconces are mounted crooked
-No finishing around the outer edges.
-All electrical conduit lines & boxes are exposed. Nothing was hidden.
-No corner/edge stones were used on our pilaster columns.
-The fireplace we purchased from him was to be able to house diamond glass. The fireplace he installed can only burn/house wood. In addition the outer edges of the fire place are not filled in & show open gabs.
-Broken rocks used on our fire place wall & the wall is not level.
-Eaves are showing all nails and paint isn’t finished.
-Carpentry cutouts are jagged and look like they were done with a butter knife.
-Pool score lines are not balanced.
-Pool plumbing lines are below grade.
-Pool leveler he installed was broken and never working. Leading us to have to manually fill our pool every week.
-Pumps he installed were leaking.
-Etc.
His service was very poor. He was never onsite & rarely answered our calls. He made us feel as if he always had something more important to do. Leading us to communicate with one of his workers Sergio the entire time.
Lastly, we tried to work with Daniel & asked him to please just fix the issues at hand. He refused, then threatened my wife & I. To date we have spent over $30,000 to correct the electrical & carpentry issues. We’re estimating we will have to spend another $40,000 to correct everything else. This has been a stressful & sad experience for us.. It was supposed to be the opposite. We have a power point of all issues above, please call *Sensitive Information Hidden*
