My particular project included remodeling every square inch of my lot including a new pool, patio, bathroom, hardscape, landscape, driveway, sound system, generator with transfer switch, lighting etc.
I’ll bottom line it for you, hire them. If I had to do this project all over again, I would.
The Conscious team did an incredible reinvention of our entire landscape at our primary residence in 2015 and have always been available for ongoing maintenance since that time. Then earlier this year we had a major pool deck drainage issue at one of our secondary homes and reached out to Conscious to see if they could help. This was a very unsexy job, so I would have fully understood if they passed on this request, but instead, they gave us their undivided attention, designed an efficient cost-effective solution, and executed it in a timely manner. The result looks great and so far the new drainage system is capturing the rainwater perfectly. Josh, Matt, Dan and team are amazing and I definitely recommend them for anyone who wants beautiful work that is done right!
Conscious Environments made our small yard seem like paradise. We had tiles, a hot tub, artificial turf, and plants/planters installed with irrigation and it went smoother than we expected for a construction project. Their workers kept our yard clean even while they worked and everyone was very professional and friendly. Everything was straight forward and explained to us – excellent communication.

We found CE after a long search for almost two years. We completed our interior remodel with another company a few years back and the terrible experience left us traumatized. We were hesitant to make our next big decision.
We initially met with Josh and found him to be easy to communicate with and he seems like a nice, honest guy. After meeting Matt, we decided to give the project to CE. We never regretted our decision.
We had a complete outdoor remodel plus overhaul of the lap pool. It was a huge project. Matt was very responsive and answer our questions and concerns in a timely manner. He dealt with our HOA beautifully.
Obviously, a project of this magnitude has unexpected issues, but Matt and Dan worked diligently and took care of them.

We worked with Conscious Environments for a lakefront pool and deck project at our motel in Tahoe. Josh was the lead designer and assisted from the early stage on conceptual drawings as well as technical, code-specific planning. Their team was a pleasure to work with – they were timely, efficient, thorough, and creative throughout the entire process. The pool and deck are now complete and everything came out great! We couldn’t have pulled this off as smoothly without Conscious Environments and highly recommend them.
We had a very unusual need and Conscious Environments did an outstanding job in helping us meet it. We have an unusual, terraced backyard and the middle terrace was unused with nothing but weeds. They turned it into a beautiful recreation area with mini golf holes, a bocce ball court, a patio, and a play structure for our grandchildren. Matt and Ryan were very responsive and great to work with. A+, an absolutely beautiful job, well done.
Worked with this firm at the start of the pandemic–9+ mos very large home expansion and outdoor living space project having Matt, Dan, and crew on our property every day. From the architecture design, to the landscaping, down to the conduit routing, and color coordination–they were top-notch in everything. They were very professional, were excellent at problem solving, and great to work with.

We had an excellent experience with Josh and his team. Our needs were just on the creative design side and the team did a terrific job getting to know us in terms of preferences and style. They considered every aspect including functional flow, aesthetics, HOA requirements and cost. They delivered a 2D and 3D plan which was the basis for all of our work (we are a family of do-it-yourselfers). And Josh made himself available for questions and vendors suggestions as we progressed with our construction. We would use Conscious Environments again if we have the need.
We used Conscious Environments for our backyard and pool remodel early in 2021. They were excellent. They came recommended to us by some friends and our general contractor. Josh and Matt (with CE) worked seamlessly with our GC. Their scope was overall backyard design and when it came to construction, specifically the pool and the hardscape.
Our project consisted of a complete demo of the back yard to remove multi levels, relocating pool equipment, adding a Baja step and creating a feature wall along the back underutilized area of the yard.
The best advice we received from our friends was to accept whatever Josh and Matt suggest, ‘just do it’. They have an eye for design, layout, aesthetics, all while keeping an eye on the budget. On this side of the remodel, we couldn’t agree more.
The entire project followed the projected timeline and within reason regarding the budget. There are always glitches in construction, but we never had the feeling like we were being nickel and dimed – communication was excellent. There were no surprises on the completion of the project.
If you like creative, awe inspiring designs, and high quality work, then Conscience environments is a great choice! We did a pretty large project (for us) and we couldn’t be happier with how it all turned out.
We renovated our yard around our entire house. We took a mud pit back yard and turned it into modern pool / hot tub combo with tile wall and water fountain. They did an amazing job of utilizing the space. We have a raised wooden deck on one side with a BBQ island, tile on the other side, cool white stones separating large tiles, and a sunken fire pit area with it’s own fountains…and lush tropical greenery throughout. They finished 2 years ago, and each visitor we get is always blown away when they walk into our back yard…we see a lot of wives elbowing their husbands with that “we need to renovate our yard” look 🙂
We had gotten 3 sketches from other good companies, and they were all fine…but kind of stock-standard. We felt like it would look like every other house with a pool/hot tub / grill. When we met Josh, we told him we wanted something unique, and our style was kinda “south beach / palm springs Chic”. He came back with some thing no one else had come close to. It was an easy decision to want that kind of back yard.
It was during a rainy winter, so there were delays. We get that, but they could have communicated a little better about it…they admitted as much. We had some surprises along the way in how some items looked as they came to life, and to their credit, they were extremely accommodating. While they said our satisfaction was really important, it actually felt like that was the case. You can tell Matt takes great pride in what they do.
They have checked in on us a few times since the project was completed, and even come back to help address some things that they didn’t have to.
They were not the most expensive, but they were not the cheapest either. But we were spending over $300K, so a few thousand more for that right product, and the enjoyment we get every time we walk outside is worth it for us.
As I’ve told them, if we end of doing more work, or in a house that needs a yard project, we would absolutely call them. I might try and include something in the contract about deadlines, but we trust them…and as more people see our yard, they point out quality elements we weren’t even aware of.
Too busy to care…
We hired Matt and Josh in November of 2020 for a California room addition and overall facelift of our backyard. We finally fired them mid August of 2021 after giving them almost $12,000 for “concept plans and construction plans” . They disappeared when we had trouble getting plans through the HOA and charged us ridiculous amounts to revise plans (hourly like an attorney) when half of the revisions were their own omissions or errors. Josh never lost an opportunity to tell us how busy they were and made excuses after excuses for delays like his phone running out of battery, forgetting appointments because he was driving out to Big Bear for the weekend, moving offices etc etc. When I finally tried to pin him down he got defensive, swore and turned the project over to his partner. 9 months later once we finally fired them we they sent us partial construction plans (contract said 7-10 days). We wasted 9 months and 12k on these guys… Don’t fall for the slick salesman pitch they give you!
