Shorb worked with my landscape designer to change my problem backyard into an inviting garden. In the process the Shorb team went out of its way to work with me to find ways to limit the expenses and keep the beauty of the design and meet my goals. The project included clearing away the old design, installing a new patio, a curved wall, steps, and walkways, and preparing several beds for plants. Short planted trees, bushes, grasses. Shorb also addressed and solved drainage and any other issues that were identified during the project.. Each team of workmen, and the project managers, were superb and professional. They exhibited expertise in every phase of the project. I was treated like royalty by all and recommend Shorb without any reservation.

Shorb Landscaping was retained for monthly grounds and lawn maintenance at two residential properties in DC and at one of the properties was hired to re-landscape the front of the building. While everyone seems very nice and the owner seems invested in the company my experience has been very disappointing. Regards to the lawn maintenance I will simply say they are NOT grass folks, for the landscape project, we wanted something that would be different than the typical landscaping at one of our buildings and, while understanding our budget was limited, the results were just so disappointing and frankly did not appear professionally done on any level. Additionally, when a good amount of the plants did not make it over the winter it took until mid-July for them to address any of the corrections versus the early Spring when uprooted plants would have a better chance to take. I found myself almost begging them to address the concerns but they were painfully slow and slightly arrogant. Eventually they uprooted the plants in the middle of July which put several foundation plants into a state of shock loosing their leaves and blooms and making the front of the building look so bad. In my dealings I have found them to be slightly arrogant (at least in my opinion) and not great communicators failing to respond to e-mails, cancelling meetings one after another, etc. I think the element of this that is the most disturbing is that to date I cannot see any progress or positive results from their efforts over the past 1-1/2 years and honestly, they don’t seem to care much that i feel this way. Some of the photos posted may show the sad condition of the grass also.

John Shorb provided all aspects of a completely redesigned urban garden for me as a part of a total remodel project. Their staff worked with my architect and landscape designer to execute stonework, paving, fencing , water features and planting. They now provide ongoing maintenance.

I was quite pleased with their integrity and willingness to follow through with all contract commitments. The staff is totally professional and a joy to work with.

My garden is glorious and I could not be happier with the work and design of JSL and in particular Alex, the designer. Alex has been so helpful and responsive to all of my ideas and questions and has visited the garden twice to check on things since the instalation. She also, replaced two shrubs that did not survive the initial planting free of charge. The entire experience has been wonderful and I am highly recomending this company to all.

John Shorb Landscaping designed and installed rain gardens on both sides of my home as part of Washington, D.C.’s RiverSmart Program. The gardens slow down stormwater runoff so much of it can be absorbed and used by the plants in my yard, rather than flooding my basement and washing out into the alley and over-burdened storm drains, then into our rivers and the Chesapeake. They did a wonderful job on design, perennial plant selection, and installation and it just gets better and better each year.
