Ravenscourt transformed my backyard into a light and lush sanctuary. It was a decaying 80’s style pool and cracked concrete wasteland. Now it’s on its way to a lush retreat. My favorite additions of their’s are the structural works—a cedar front porch (sturdy with good design), cedar back steps with a railing (both appealing and safe), and a number of steel, large planter boxes which give the space structure and beauty + a vegetable garden. Their team of workers were professional and never left a mess. Also they worked everyday until the job was done. Shawn and Laurin make a great team. I rarely if ever do negative reviews because I do not want to harm a small business, but I felt it was necessary to provide a review of the work done for us by Ravenscourt. Two years ago they designed and built a wood patio with planters for our small yard and exterior wood doors to screen a side storage area, along with landscaping. We love the design, but within a week of completion we began to have issues. Immediately, several wood planks that splintered, and the doors to the side area were too heavy for the plastic hinges and could not be opened. I showed the doors to Shawn on his last visit and he told me there was nothing they could do (we have since had the doors rebuilt and with steel hinges). Shawn’s team replaced several splintering planks on the deck within 60 days of completion.

Since that time, the wood patio and planters have continued to split and crack and some pieces have rotted all the way through (see photos). The tops of the planters and planks are warped and uneven and when it rains, there is standing water. We emailed Shawn this June with photos and he responded “I have not seen our decking decay in such a quick time. I do not know for sure why there is rot.” Although we have attempted to discuss this with him on numerous occasions, he has since been non-responsive. The cost of the cedar wood and installation was $13,000—for wood that is obviously defective.

In addition to the rotting wood, other problems include every few months we fill the planters with a significant amount of soil since the planters are open at the bottom and the soil leaks out. The drip lines that they installed within the planters no longer work and are jutting out at the top of the planters – most likely due to the continued movement of the soil.

We understand if there is no warranty, but we would expect that Ravenscourt would at least respond and provide us with some options. We were expecting more from this company.

Shawn and Laurin were so great to work with, very professional and responsive. They listened to our needs and wants for a dog-friendly, easy-to-care-for backyard and came up with an excellent design for it. They explained the costs and schedule clearly and answered all our questions we had before, during, and after the project. The work on it (thru a hot summer) was steady and sure, any hiccups were dealt with promptly. We are so happy with the end result and look forward to seeing all the plants bloom and grow.

It was such a pleasure working with Laurin and Shawn on my backyard project. I’d recently moved into a home that had backyard space, but wasn’t very useable when I moved in. After speaking with Shawn briefly over the phone completing the online questionnaire, I was initially surprised by the wait for the in-person consult, but also realize that’s a sign of a good business to be busy. I was happy to wait for a highly recommended landscaper than rush to get it done by someone else. When they started, the entire project took a week and a half, and it has completely transformed my backyard into extended outdoor living space: a lovely paver patio, raised garden beds to plant veggies with my son, a garden bed of native plants and a tall post to string pretty lights from – this is my new happy place, and I’m so grateful to the entire Ravenscourt team for helping me to see my yard’s full potential.

We worked with Laurin & Shawn to completely transform our small townhome backyard to a wonderful, inviting New Orleans courtyard inspired outdoor space. I really enjoyed the process of working with Ravenscourt and seeing their plan & drawing of their vision for the space & what it could be!! Our backyard was a “train wreck” after we finished construction of a second floor garage apartment. We generally knew what we wanted, but lacked the ability to get it designed and installed. Shawn and Laurin came over and interviewed us and then came up with a wonderful functioning backyard design with all that we had asked for. The perils of construction through Covid didn’t make it easy, but we got there and are extremely happy with our finished product. It was great working with creative and knowledgeable people with the ability to follow through with construction to the finish.

Shawn, Laurin and their crew were incredible. We had a huge project that included drainage, upgrading sprinkler system, building a large pergola, brick pavers for pergola and sidewalks and most importantly coming up with a landscape design for a large property that was a mess and a blank slate. We knew almost nothing about plants and Laurin came through in a big way with her recommendations, which has turned out to be stunning and functional with regards to dealing with moving standing water from the property and attracting bees and butterflies. They are very knowledgeable, honest and were willing to patiently answer the constant questions I had.

Shawn and Laurin did a great job for us. We loved the design. It was innovative and really fit our space and our lifestyle, They listened to what we wanted and put together a very functional design. We had three spaces. The front yard stayed simple with clean lines. Our courtyard is a zen garden with hot tub and deck. The backyard got more creative with a spiral lawn, beneficial bug house and water feature. Its perfect for us and our grandchildren. All in all, very professional and responsive.
